Houghton Lake Chamber of Commerce
Houghton Lake is Michigan's largest inland lake. It
has 32 miles of shore line, with 22,000 acres of sandy bottom water.
Located in the middle of Michigan's lower peninsula , Houghton Lake is the "Hub"
of Northern Michigan. Easily accessible by Michigan's two main north-south corridors; I-75
(exit 227) to the east and US-27 (exit M-55) to the west.
The population of the Houghton Lake community is approx. 11,000 full time residents which
swells to more than 33,000 at the peak periods of summer and is compromised of (4)
townships; Denton, Roscommon, Lake and Markey.
Houghton Lake is truly Michigan's vacation wonderland, with fishing & boating,
numerous golf courses and a virtual fantasy of snowmobile trails...or perfectly said,
"Houghton Lake has it all".
Houghton Lake is ranked 2nd in the state with combined area of natural/artificial lakes
and ponds, 3rd in the state for numbers of miles of designated off-road vehicle trails,
7th in the number of natural heritage sites and 9th in the number of historical
attractions open to the public. Offering tourist a well rounded vacation of fun and a
source of Michigan's history.
